Position Title: Systems Administrator/Database Administrator
Department: Systems Development
Reports To: Lead Programmer

Summary Description:
As a Systems Administrator you will be a leader in providing hardware, operating system, software, networking and business continuity support. You will research, recommend and purchase new technology and hardware. You will be responsible for the installation and configuration of server operating systems and coordinating Disaster Recovery testing and restoration plans.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
1. Systems Administrator
• Network design and installation support
• Installation and configuration of wired local area networks including switches and associated equipment
• Network operations and maintenance support
• Support all currently used LAN equipment
• Replace failed components
• Update hardware and software as needed
• Manage access to network segments and resources in compliance with the clients network segmentation nad network access policies
• Support network infrastructure and IP management for local area networks, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and other network devices
• Manage network and server system configurations, including network design, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, troubleshooting, and monitoring
• Support and maintain firewall rules sets
• Monitor processing capacity, server software errors and software upgrades
• Assisting the Computer Support Specialist
• Network Access Control Support
• Identify user needs
• Maintain network servers such as file servers, VPN gateways, and intrusion detection systems.
• Provide recommendations on future capabilities
2. Database Administrator
• Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications
• Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access an security
• working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers
• communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
• commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
• Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in IT or related field or equivalent
Experience: Two (2) years of progressive experience in planning, designing, implementation and analyzing data or telecommunications networks Experience with LAN switching, wireless, Ethernet, Windows Server all versions, Windows desktop OS all versions, Office all versions, TCP/IP

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
• Strong understanding of troubleshooting methodology
• Basic understanding of electronics, wireless communications
